NEW SEASON NEW HABITS <3
The frost has come and the flowers are dead. (Mostly we have some lisianthus hanging on and mums!) I used to get sad about the first frost coming and killing off my flowers, but closing the books on my 7th growing season… I am here for it.
The looming stress of harvesting and maintaining the blooms has dissipated over night (no like really over night). I feel like I can finally catch my breath!
Don’t get me wrong there is still plenty of work the fields demand of us this time of the year, in fact it’s a race against the clock with winter just around the bend, but there is a tid bit less to do around here with those suckers gone.
So with a new season here it’s time for new routines and an opportunity to form new habits! I won’t be the first or last farmer to say this, but in season the self-care doesn’t just take a back seat… it’s being drug through the dirt as we hang on to the bumper of a car going 100mph. We are up with the sun and sometimes working by headlamp at night… quick dinners are the standard and dates with the gym are…. LOL.. But with the sun rising a little later and no blooms demanding to be covered, weeded, or snipped… it’s an opportunity to start working on the garden within.
So what’s the plan? Honestly I am winging it and taking the tiniest baby steps to self-care and forming new habits but so far I know I can’t have my cup of Nespresso until my morning walk is complete… and that.. that’s feels like a great first step!
